Explore the vibrant village of Mto wa Mbu today on a guided walk. Learn more about the local history, industry and cuisine from members of Tanzanian tribes. Then, eat lunch with a local family with food harvested from farms nearby. Afterwards, tour the workshops of village artisans and try some painting yourself. Transfer to the Rift Valley escarpment and our lodge overlooking Lake Manyara.
Today try to spot wildlife in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and learn about the story of human origins at the Olduvai Gorge Museum and Visitor’s Center. After lunch the group will travel to Serengeti National Park for a safari through the landscape. In the evening, settle into our tented camp.
Take in the wildlife of the Serengeti. Opt to view the park from a different perspective on an optional sunrise hot-air balloon ride. Or head out with the group for morning and afternoon wildlife-viewing excursions. If luck is on your side the group may glimpse all of Africa’s “big five”—lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and Cape buffalo.
Head out on a morning safari through the landscape of the Serengeti and then indulge in a picnic breakfast. Next stop is the Ngorongoro Crater where the group will have lunch along the rim. Then, travel into the caldera itself for a safari drive in search of zebras and more. Afterwards, travel to our safari lodge in Karatu.
Tour a local coffee farm in the morning to learn about the cultivation and production of the bean in this area. Have lunch back at the lodge and then take advantage of a free afternoon to relax by the pool and enjoy yourself.
Travel as a group to the Great Rift Valley, the place where the African tectonic plate split in two. Head to a Maasai village and chat with locals and learn about the G Adventures–supported Clean Cookstoves project, which seeks to reduce household air pollution. Afterwards, lend a hand during the installation of a new stove in a village boma. Then, return to Arusha for a free afternoon. In the evening enjoy a farewell dinner together.
