I visited Egypt in January and February of 2009. I spent a month exploring the region up and down the Nile from Alexandria to Aswan. I also visited the Red Sea port of Hurghada and the world's oldest monastery in the Sinai Peninsula. With over 6,000 years of history, there is a great deal to see and do in Egypt beyond just the Pyramids.

Egypt is home to seven UNESCO World Heritage sites which cover not only the temples of ancient Egypt, but also the paleontology site of Wadi Hitan, the Greco-Roman ruins of Abu Mena and  the Islamic Architecture of Cairo. If you are also adventerous you can also go SCUBA diving in the Mediterranean to see the ruins of the Lighthouse of Alexandria, one of the original Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

Egypt is a fascinating destination and should be high on everyone's list of places to visit.
